Spring thaw in Butovo. Here is one of the older apartment buildings in the background. Many newer apartments have been built in Butovo in recent years.

At a train station in central Russia. This is a long-distance train rather than a local train. It is going to southern Russia.

Now you know what the bathroom looks like in a typical Moscow apartment building and you have seen the three rooms.

This is a typical kitchen/dining room of what is termed a 3-room apartment. The buildings are typically 10 or more stories high, with several apartments like this one on each floor.

In addition to the kitchen, a three room apartment has a sitting room, a bedroom and a bathroom.

These industrious children built an igloo in the Butovo woods on a cold March day.

There is a large toy store near Moscow’s old KGB building, filled with toys from around the world. The store also has huge carousels,  one of which you can see in this photo. Children from all over the city come here to ride the carousels.

Taking a nap in the sitting room of our Butovo apartment.

During the winter, many people visit the hills near Ivan the Terrible’s  home and church. You can see his church in the background. The hills slope downward to the Moscow River, and provide a wonderful place for sledding on pieces of cardboard. The people sledding here are mostly adults. The steep and long slopes on these hills are too scary for  most children!

Here is the Arbat McDonalds. You can see more of the Arbat in the background. The dark clump in the foreground is a beggar.
